Woman Charged With Manslaughter In Road Rage Case

A Pearl woman left a Jackson hospital Friday afternoon and went straight to jail for allegedly causing an accident on Highway 49 that killed her young daughter.

Vanessa Coursey, 20, is charged with manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault.

The Highway Patrol says it was road rage that caused Coursey to ram a car driven by Alicia Preston of Saucier on May 15th. Coursey's two children, 18-month-old Caitlin and 3-year-old Cynthia, were thrown from her car. Cynthia died at University Medical Center three days after the accident. Caitlin has been released from the hospital.

Alicia Preston was also injured.

According to the affidavit, Vanessa Coursey "did unlawfully and feloniously, while engaged in the crime of aggravated assault against Alicia Preston, and under circumstances exhibiting culpable negligence, did cause the death of Cynthia Coursey."

Coursey is being held on $45,000 bond in the Harrison County Jail. She will have her first court appearance on Monday.
