Biloxi Residents Speak In Favor Of Bay Village Development

BILOXI (WLOX) -- The Biloxi City Council is moving closer to approving a mixed use development that's drawn criticism from some citizens.

The development would combine apartments, homes and businesses on some of the land that used to be a golf course. It's located on Pass Road, next to Keesler Federal Credit Union.

A couple of weeks ago, residents of neighboring Edgewater Estates told the planning commission they objected to Bay Village. But at Tuesday's council meeting, a number of people spoke in favor of the mixed use project in west Biloxi.

One person said, "I believe the Bay Village Development provides a win-win situation for everybody. The development, if approved, will contribute a lot to the city's tax rolls, provide a number of upscale new residences, and would have the effect, I believe, of increasing the values of properties in the surrounding areas."

A vote could come next week on Bay Village.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, the council did clear the way for another new development. Council members granted the variances needed to convert the former Saxony Apartment complex into condominium. The site, just north of Highway 90, will be called Waterford Place condominium.
