A Jacskon County church is celebrating 125 years. First Baptist Church in Pascagoula had a special service Sunday to celebrate its anniversary.
The church was first built in 1877, and has gone through three fires and several hurricanes. Church leaders say they are proud of their heritage and the impact of their church on the community.
"What the church does, what I like to say it does is give the children roots and wings. If we give them the background, if we give them the foundation, we give them roots, then there comes a time in their life where they take on wings and they just fly away and become great leaders," says Dr. Rex Yancy.
Longtime church members Senator Trent Lott and INS Commissioner James Ziglar were special guest speakers.
