One student's generosity went a long way to help others and her school.
Lexi Simpson presented her school, Singing River Elementary, with a $1,500 check on Wednesday that she received for cutting her hair for the "Wigs for Kids " program.
The program helps kids who loose their hair because of cancer.
Lexi entered a national contest called "The Act of Giving" through her school. She wrote an essay explaining how she donated 12 inches of hair twice to the program. Through the contest, she won the $1,500 for her school as well as other prizes.
Lexi says she hopes her act of kindness influences others to give.
"People who have really long hair and they want to get it cut short, I just suggest that why don't they donate it and make good use of it instead of throwing it away."
