Two Killed In Hattiesburg Plane Crash

Two people were killed in the crash of an experimental plane at the Bobby Chain Municipal Airport in Hattiesburg. Authorities said local pilots Mark K. Taber and Frederick M. Jones were taking off in a Lancair 300 E-S, an experimental plane. The aircraft went down Thursday in woods about 100 yards from the end of the runway.

The airport was closed until the Federal Aviation Administration arrived Friday to investigate the cause of the crash.

"Once the FAA begins their investigation, we should know more,'' said Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict.
