The city of Gulfport paused on Thursday to remember seven officers killed in the line duty.
The police department hosted its annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service, to honor the fallen officers. About 75 people gathered at the Officer Memorial Monument on 23rd Avenue to pray, sing and watch a wreath being placed at the marker.
Speakers at the ceremony talked about the special bond between police and firefighters since the September 11th terrorist attacks.
"I think this is indicative of where our country has turned since 9-11, police and firemen coming together, citizens coming together in respect," Gulfport Police Chief Wayne Payne said. "We can't forget the folks that gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and we shall not do that here in the city of Gulfport."
