Double Murder Leads To Crime Spree, Ends With Murder-Suicide

Four people are dead after multi-county shooting spree on Thursday.

Authorities say the man who they believe killed a couple in Stone County later turned the gun on his wife and then himself. The deadly crime spree stretched over the span of about six hours.

Three other people, including two law enforcement officers in Columbia, were injured during the rampage.

Authorities identified the suspect as Justin Meyer, 26, of Biloxi. His wife, who was believed to be an accomplice to the crimes, was identified as Amber Meyer, 22.

The two victims from the shooting in Stone County were identified as Donna L. Defelippo, 25 and Johnny R. Watts Jr. 25. Stone County Sheriff's Deputies say the two were living together.

Justin Meyer and Defelippo were the parents of a 5-year-old son who was living with Defelippo.

The chase began early Thursday morning when Stone County authorities received a 911 call at 6:22 from a home on Highway 49 between Perkinston and McHenry. A 10-year-old boy living at the home made the call. Officials say he told the operator that a man had entered the home and began shooting.

Authorities say the suspected gunman, Justin Meyer, then kidnapped his 5-year-old son who was living at the home. Meyer and his wife fled the scene with the child.

About 30 minutes later on Highway 15, a drive by shooting was reported. Stone County resident Richard Walker was shot in the neck and hand on his way to work. He was taken to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg to undergo surgery. He is recovering at this time.

Authorities believe Meyer shot Walker because he believed he was being followed. By 9 a.m., Justin and Amber Meyer had made their way to Columbia in Marion County. There, police say the couple fired shots at two officers, abandoned their truck and stole another vehicle.

The two then drove to Lawrence County in the Highway 43 area. Police say they tried to steal a car and again fired at the officers chasing them.

The Meyers ditched the stolen truck behind a home in the Oak Vale Community and left the 5-year-old boy in that house. They then ran into nearby woods, and by 12:45, officers found Justin and Amber Meyer dead.

Authorities say Justin Meyers and Defelippo were parents of the 5-year-old boy who was kidnapped. Columbia Chief of Police Jimmy Stringer says that child will be turned over to the Department of Human Services.

The 10-year-old boy was Defelippo's child from a previous marriage. That child has been released into the custody of her parents.
