World Health Organization Gets Tough On Obesity

(Geneva-AP) -- The human race is getting fatter, and health officials expect it to get sicker as a result.

So the World Health Organization wants to head off the epidemic of obesity at the source -- food.

The WHO is enlisting the cooperation of food producers. One official says industry officials seem willing to talk about making foods with less salt, sugar and fat.

Experts say obesity, diabetes and heart disease, all associated with obesity, are spreading into the developing world.

One research group estimates that 300 million people worldwide are obese and 750 million more are overweight.
