While the future of the Mississippi Sea Wolves remains unclear, efforts are underway to try and keep the local ECHL team right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Minority owner Lenny Sawyer has formed a group of local investors in an effort to purchase the team from majority owner Jean Gagnon.
Two businessmen from Kentucky have made a proposal to buy the Sea Wolves and move the team to Lexington.
To make sure the team doesn't pack up and head to Blue Grass country, a group of financial and business leaders here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, headed by Lenny Sawyer, have come together trying to develop a package to keep the team here in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
The local group is slated to meet with Mississippi Coast Coliseum Director Bill Holmes on Friday to hammer out a deal for a possible lease, if they are able to buy the team from Gagnon.
The future of the Sea Wolves should be decided one way on the other by next week. Head Coach Bob Woods is hoping the team remains in Mississippi as do most of the Sea Wolves players.
