15-year-old Katie Cliburn a freshman at Stone County high school placed 12th all-around in the Level 9 Senior "B" Division at the Region Eight Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina two weeks ago.
She earned her way to the Eastern National Championships set for Kissimmee, Florida this weekend. She's a member of Lanier's School of Gymnastics in Gulfport and will be competing against 48 gymnast in the Sunshine State.
Katie said, "I feel really prepared. I've done tons of routines and my coaches have supported me tremendously. I feel really prepared."
Cindy Lanier Wallace, Gymnastics coach Cindy Lanier Wallace said, "She just has a natural talent. She's a beautiful gymnast has nice pretty lines. She's graceful, flexible and she works very hard."
Katie's a bright young lady who began her trail of success in gymnastics when she was 18-months-old. Katie said she loves the competition, "I like the fact that you have to overcome obstacles and when you do it's just a tremendous feeling. I also like the competition, competing against each other."
Katie Cliburn didn't reach success overnight. It's been years of dedication, dedication by attending practice each day and getting the job done in state, regional and national competition. She's the first level 9 gymnast from Mississippi to advance to the Eastern National Championships.
