Historic Building & Special Exhibit On Page 13

The Old U.S. Mint on Esplanade Avenue in New Orleans is an historic landmark. The mint made U.S. currency from 1838 until 1909. In the 1860s, confederate currency was produced at the mint.

Right now, the facility is the home of a world class exhibit called Gold. An incomparable collection of geological specimens and cultural objects tell the story of how this precious metal helped shape history. It's a story of treasure, beauty and power.

Gold will be in place at the Old U.S. Mint in New Orleans through January 2nd. A full schedule of lectures and special events held in conjunction with the exhibition can be found at http://lsm.crt.state.la.us.
