Moss Point School District First To Receive Full Accreditation

The Moss Point School District is the first school district on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to receive full accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The school district was officially recognized at a conference in Orlando, Florida on Monday, December 10, 2007. The district is one of about 100 nationwide that have received accreditation this year.

Last October, a diverse, seven member SACS committee spent several days evaluating the district by visiting schools, conducting interviews, observing day-to-day operations, and assessing district data.  Members were very impressed with what they saw and heard.  At the end of their visit, they shared an overview of their favorable findings with school board members, district administrators, and the community.

Technology advancement, community involvement, parental pride, and attendance improvements were among those things the committee noted as accomplishments.  Reported challenges included addressing declining enrollment and the need for facility upgrades.

"This accreditation is testament to us that we are moving in the right direction," says Superintendent Lt. Col. Kim Staley.  "The committee's findings are aligned with our internal examination.  We are aware of our strengths and weaknesses and are dedicated to continuing to improve."
