North Biloxi Business Boom

More and more businesses are locating in North Biloxi. In less than a year, several new complexes and dozens of new business have made the commitment to the area.

"This spot seems to be centrally located and we're excited," said Carlos Muniz, owner of WOW Café and Wingery.

The franchise wing shop is one of several restaurants that will go in the Nord du Lieu Shopping Plaza.

"It seems that I'm going to be part of the new growth that's going on here," Muniz said.

A Subway Restaurant, Smoothie King and Red Eye Grill are three other tenants that will neighbor the wing café. Behind the plaza there's a LaQuinta Inn. And Regions Banks is is set to open its doors at the corner of Cedar Lake and Popp's Ferry Roads.

"That means a lot for the city. We always said that once we get our infrastructure in that area then it would start developing, and that's what's happening now all up and down Cedar Lake and Popp's Ferry," Mayor A.J. Holloway said.

Mayor Holloway said the city is now preparing to add sidewalks and streetlights east of the plaza to create even more development opportunities.

The Nord du Lieu sign will be in place within a matter of days and leaders say businesses in the plaza will open as early as January of 2008.
