A non-profit agency is counting on your help to spread holiday cheer. Boat People SOS is holding a Christmas collection drive to help some 800 coast families. The organization helps people trying to get back on their feet after the hurricane.
Officials say they are asking for canned food, clothing, gift and gas cards, and toys. So far, donations have been slow to come in, especially for toys.
"Hurricane Katrina was so devastating and people are still far from recovery or complete recovery. I know that there are a number of households who have made some strides, but there are so many that are still living in the FEMA trailers. They're really struggling, and the cost of living here on the coast is much higher than pre-Katrina," said Thao Vu with Boat People SOS.
If you would like to help the organization with its holiday drive, just drop off a donation at the office in the Vieux Marche in Biloxi from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
