State Unemployment Rate Drops

More people are working in Mississippi.

The state's unemployment rate fell to 6.5 percent in February from 7 percent in January. The Mississippi Employment Security Commission released the figures Friday.

MESC Executive Director Curt Thompson says there were job gains in the service sector, wholesale and retail trade sector and food product sector.

Officials say 6,100 more people were working in February than in January.

Issaquena County, with an unemployment rate of 25 percent, led 22 counties in double-digits. Lafayette County had the state's lowest rate, at 2.5 percent.
