Keelser Airman Awarded The Bronze Star

The Air Force recognized the achievements of one of its own Friday. Tech Sergeant Michael Soucy was awarded the Bronze Star for service while deployed to Iraq.

Sergeant Soucy, who is stationed at Keesler, was part of a joint task force where he operated aerial surveillance equipment. Officials say his competence and tactical expertise were key to the success of several combat missions.

"As a tactical UAV controller, our main the focus is to support the ground commanders and that's direct support of the Army. And that was really what we were lacking historically, that sense of jointness. Now we have it through the use of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance," Sgt. Michael Soucy said.

The Bronze Star is the fourth highest combat award, and the ninth highest military honor.
