Land Donation Will Preserve A Piece Of Jackson County

An Escatawpa family's land donation will help better the environment for future generations.

Wednesday, Gary and Twila Lee donated two acres of land to the Land Trust for Mississippi Costal Plan. The land is located near the Pascagoula River, and it will be used as open green space and a filter for storm runoff.

The couple says their investment will help promote a more environmentally friendly community.

"This land will never be developed. It's a beautiful spot on the river, and it will give the wildlife a place to go and a safe haven," Gary Lee said.

His wife Twila agrees that protecting our wildlife should be a priority.

"We see a lot of beauty. In my own backyard, we love to see the squirrels, and birds, and raccoons. And we just think it is a great place to preserve for future generations," Twila Lee said.

The land is dedicated to Escatawpa resident Linwood Grierson. The couple says Grierson inspired them to donate the parcels to help the wildlife habitat.
