Business is at a standstill this weekend at a Gulfport strip mall, after a drunk driver allegedly smashed into the building.
It happened overnight near Highway 49 and Ashley Lane. That's where police arrested 26 year old Alexander Garcia Contreas after he "crashed" his SUV .
Some business owners say they are trying to picking up the pieces.
Saturday mornings at Just Your Style Beauty Salon usually consists of relaxation and pampering. But this weekend, a day of beauty turned into a day of cleanup for business owner Debbie Kilpatrick.
That's after a truck slammed into the salon causing major damage.
After being in business only two months, this salon owner and her employees will have to find another source of income.
"Probably about six of us are going to be out of work for a couple of weeks," says Debbie Kilpatrick, owner of Just My Stlye Beauty Salon.
Business owners say the truck came through the front door and ended up right here in the front of the salon.
Cindi Lampton is a stylist at the salon.
"I just cried. You know cause we just opened and this is hard," Lampton said.
Cindi Lampton is one of the stylists in the salon. She says on a Saturday, she typically earns about $350, and now that she will be out of work for several weeks, she's not sure what she'll do.
"We are getting new clients everyday and it's just a setback for us. A financial services firm next door to the salon also got some pretty heavy damage," says Lampton.
"We came out in the wee hours and cleaned up and did the best we could," says business owner Jane Strojny.
She says she worked through the morning packing up computer equipment and securing confidential documents. Strojny says it's unfortunate that one person's recklessness is another person's loss.
Now local contractors are trying to patch up the building so that business can get back to normal.
Stronjny & Stronjy will temporarily move business to a Biloxi location. Just Your Style Beauty Salon hopes to be up and running in about two weeks.
