Gulfport Cracking Down On Squatters

The city of Gulfport is taking steps to keep squatters out of a hurricane damaged apartment complex.

Wednesday, code officers put up signs on the several buildings that make up the Court Yard Apartments on Debuys Road. The signs warn people it is illegal to live there.

City officials say there has been a problem with vagrants there, and the signs give police the legal authority to arrest anyone on the property.

Gulfport plans to send a letter to the owner, Brenner Investment Group, advising the company to secure the building and fill in the swimming pool.

City officials say no work has been done to the buildings other than gutting the first floor.
