A new economic development agency has begun operations on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Alliance for Economic Development will work to promote six southern counties. They are Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, George, Stone and Pearl River counties.
Organizer George Freeland says the intention is to market the six-county area to industry and business prospects. The Mississippi Power Company will work with the alliance. Mike Olivier of the Harrison County Development Commission says he and other economic development officials from the Coast had informal ties in the past and did some joint marketing.
