Southern Miss WIns First C-USA Series

Jeff Cook went three-for-five with three R-B-Is and Bobby Garner hit a two-run single in a four-run seventh inning to lift Southern Mississippi to an 8-3 win today over Texas Christian. Southern Miss (14-5, 2-1 Conference USA) also got three hits each from Jarrett Hoffpauir and Jason Lowery. T-C-U (9-14, 1-2) trailed 2-0 after the top of the first, but the Horn Frogs cut the lead. Mike Settle got a hit to score Levi Robinson in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. T-C-U tied the score at 2-2 in the third inning. The Golden Eagles jumped out to the early lead with an R-B-I single from Cook and another run-scoring single by Lowery. Southern Mississippi took the lead for good on a R-B-I single by Cook in the seventh and Garner's homer that made the score 6-2. Charlie Rogers (4-1) allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings to earn the win for Southern Miss. Kyle Shoemaker (2-2) gave up five runs on 11 hits in six innings to take the loss for T-C-U.
