Artists Wanted To Enhance Biloxi-OS Bridge Design

Attention artists in Jackson and Harrison Counties: MDOT needs your help to beautify the new Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge.

Until September 28th, local artists can submit their original works to MDOT for consideration. The judges will select 18 works to be transposed from two-dimensional contour line drawings to three-dimensional bronze plaques.

The plaques will be created by local sculptor Greg Moran using remnants of the broken bridge.

Southern District Highway Commissioner Wayne Brown says local people should have a hand in this rebuilding project.

"You can draw dolphins, you can draw bridges, you can draw sunset across, you can draw a wharf, you can draw the sun over Biloxi, or the moon over Ocean Springs. We will melt down the bearing plates that came of the old bridge, the brass bearing plates, and they will be erected each one tenth mile on the bridge."

The mile-marker plaques will be placed along the pedestrian walkways.
