Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus has determined the baby found dead in a parked SUV in Ocean Springs Thursday did die from heat related complications.
The child has been identified as nine-month-old, Lexie Sherwood. The baby was found still strapped into her car seat Thursday afternoon.
It was about four o'clock when Ocean Springs Resident Alec Williams passed the Bancorp South building on Washington Avenue. Williams noticed a number of police and emergency vehicles in the parking lot.
"They were tending to someone in a vehicle, but I couldn't see what it was," Ocean Springs Resident Alec Williams said.
Williams then spotted a woman running around the parking lot screaming, and by that time, he knew something was terribly wrong.
"There was a lady around a black Mitsubishi or whatever that is over there, and she was pretty hysterical."
Ocean Springs Police say the baby had been in the vehicle for hours unattended. When somebody finally noticed the child, it was too late. Authorities plan to release more details today, and WLOX News will have a full report tonight.
