It Shouldn't Take Four Hours To Get A Driver's License

We are hearing frequent reports that it is taking three to four hours to get a drivers license in Gulfport. You can go to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety office on Three Rivers Road and find a packed waiting room that spills outside where people have to wait in the hot sun for hours before their number is called.

Two years after Katrina this should not be happening. Why should you have to take a half day of vacation or miss work for half the day just to get your license renewed?

Top leaders with Mississippi Highway Patrol should be down here fixing this problem.

Governor Haley Barbour says the situation is not acceptable and says he believes some legislative action is needed to take care of the problem. He says the answer might be to privatize the license bureau.

Local legislators need to visit the center and see just how bad it is. Something needs to be done now.

Our residents should not have to wait until the January legislative session to get relief from this terrible situation.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to
