Northwest Airlink plans to resume evening flights between Memphis and airports in Jackson, Tupelo, Greenville, and Gulfport. Airline spokesman, Kurt Ebenoch, says the flights, which will be added in June, are part of Northwest's efforts to reinstate a series of flights it canceled after the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Memphis is a major hub for Northwest, with about 90 percent of its Memphis customers connecting to other Northwest flights. The service at at Memphis will increase from 59 daily departures in May to 82 daily departures on June 7th.
At Mississippi's largest airport in Jackson, officials say the number of airplane seats available to travelers has fallen 29 percent since September.
