Teacher Faces Drug Charges

Police say a fourth-grade teacher at a Jackson County school faces drug charges in connection with an armed home invasion. Dana Darlene Vice of Ocean Springs is charged with possession of a controlled substance involving methamphetamine, the club drug ecstasy and OxyContin. Vice teaches at East Central Elementary school. She was arrested Tuesday at home.

Authorities are searching for two other suspects in the case, Robbie Joe Spears and Kevin Polk, both of Helena. Jackson County sheriff's investigator Skip Kieper says the three are accused of breaking into a Pascagoula home owned by Chris Havard, who is in jail on a drug charge. The suspects allegedly held Havard's younger brother hostage at gunpoint and demanded containers of anhydrous ammonia, an ingredient in methamphetamine. Kieper says a friend who had come to visit saw Havard tied up in a chair through a window and alerted authorities.

The suspects fled, leaving Vice's pickup truck in the driveway. Authorities say Vice also faces misdemeanor marijuana charges in connection with an arrest last week in Ocean Springs.
