Heavy Rain Blamed For Fatal Accident

Heavy rains Friday night were reportedly to blame for a fatal accident. It happened at 11:14 p.m. Friday night on Interstate 10 near Interstate 110.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department says a Jeep was stalled on the road when it was hit by a Dodge Caravan. Coroner Gary Hargrove said because of the heavy rain, the driver of the Caravan could not see the Jeep.

Deputies say a pickup then hit the Caravan and then an 18-wheeler.

The driver of the Jeep died at the scene of the crash. Hargrove identified him as Bennie Caldwell, 64, of Luverne, Alabama. Two other people were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released.

The Sheriff's Department says one of the drivers was charged with driving with a suspended license, but they did not identify which driver.
