Student Leaders Come To Workshop On The Coast

Future leaders of the 21st century gathered at USM Gulf Coast Wednesday.

The Kiwanis Club hosted its annual leadership conference. The conference drew 145 students from 10 different Coast schools.

Part of the day was spent working on an interactive skit. The rest of the time, the students learned how they can make a difference in their communities.

"We're learning how to interact with different people of all different kinds," Biloxi sophomore Brittany Joyner said. "I didn't know anybody in my group, and now we're all friends. And we're learning how to deal with different situations as a leader and really show our leadership skills."

The student leadership conference was a one-day event. But the kids already have plans to get together again next month. They'll perform a community service project at the Ronald McDonald House in Mobile.
