Downtown Ocean Springs Holds Its First Organized Sidewalk Sale

The bargain buys are in downtown Ocean Springs this week during its first organized sidewalk sale.

"What good woman wouldn't pass up a good sale," says Abbie Luck, Biloxi.

"That's true," says Deedra LeJeune of Louisiana.

The sales were all over Gabbie's On The Avenue, a jewelery and gift boutique. Abbie Luck of Biloxi said the deals definitely lured her in. She brought her sorority sister visiting town along with her.

"It's a very eclectic afternoon to see the artwork and jewelry and different things," says Luck.

"There's such unique little items around here that I don't get to go in everyday to pick up back home," says LeJeune.

Gabbie's store manager Kelly Beaty says the goal of this sidewalk sale is to draw people in to discover the many shops and what they have to offer.

"Part of the draw of Gabbie's is that we bring people here. And they can either make their own jewelry, or we can design it for them," says Beaty.

From fine jewelry at Gabbie's to fun toys at Miners Toys, even the smallest shoppers could find some buys they just couldn't resist.

"We were just thinking about having a sidewalk sale of our own, and the chamber came around and told us about its idea. And we just thought it was perfect.  In the summer time, it's a traditional kind of an old fashion method of having a sale.  We've had a lot of customers in, and we're looking forward to a really big weekend," says Merileigh Miner-Furr of Miner's Toys.

Businesses say people are steady coming in to save big.

"We just have so much to offer. We have such a variety of stores now that you can take care of so much of shopping right here in town and have a really nice experience doing it," says Miner-Furr.

The sidewalk sale wraps up Saturday.
