Keesler Airman Shot Near Pass Road Gate

A Keesler Air Force Base security guard is dead from what officials are calling a "weapons discharge." It happened about 8:30am Tuesday morning at the Pass Road gate.

Because of the investigation, that gate will remain closed until further notice.

Base officials say they don't know if the victim's wounds were self-inflicted, or if he had been shot by another person. The airman's name has not been released until relatives are notified.

Base officials say until the gate is re-opened, people entering the base should use the White Avenue or Meadows Avenue gates.

WLOX News will have more on the story later today.
