Three Gulfport Officers On Leave After Shooting

Three Gulfport Police officers are on administrative leave while authorities investigate an overnight shooting.

Gulfport Police Chief Alan Weatherford confirmed that Robert Buchanan of Baton Rouge was reportedly swinging a baseball bat at the officers when they shot and used their tasers on Buchanan. The incident happened near the Highway 49 and Creosote Road intersection.

The police chief wouldn't say how many shots his officers fired. He did confirm that the wounded man underwent surgery and was alive.

The Harrison County District Attorney's Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is overseeing this case.
