Keesler Training Physicians Once Again

Keesler Medical Center is once again training physicians through its residency program. As of Monday, there are now three facilities in Mississippi training doctors.

Medical professionals and administrators from across the state say Keesler's program is an incredible boost for the state's floundering health care system.

The last time a study was done in 2004, the national average was 273 doctors for every 100,000 people. Mississippi only had 182 physicians per 100,000 people. But those numbers may now be even lower, due to Hurricane Katrina.
