Musgrove Town Hall Meeting

More than 250 teachers, administrators, parents and students came out to hear Governor Ronnie Musgrove talk about budget cuts that have hit the education sector. Musgrove told the crowd in the Biloxi High School auditorium last night that he didn't have any choice about cutting 64 million dollars from the Department of Education.

Musgrove trimmed agency budgets by 116 million dollars last week. He gave agencies until March 1st to decide where to make the reductions. Musgrove told the Biloxi audience that the national recession has affected state tax revenues. He also says the Legislature's overestimation of the state's growth led lawmakers to over-budget.

Although the Legislature decides how the state's money is spent, the governor is responsible for trimming the budget.
