Voter Registration Deadline Approaching For Primary

If you're planning to vote in this year's primary election, the time to register is running out. The deadline for voter registration is Friday, July 6.

If you've moved since Katrina to a new permanent residence, you will need to re-register within the next two weeks. You can visit your local circuit clerk's office or city hall.

Jackson County Circuit Clerk Joe Martin says registering is easy, and your vote could make a huge impact on the future of Mississippi.

"They're voting on people who are going to represent them for the next four years, from governor all the way down to constable. This, in my opinion, is one of the biggest election years we have in a four year cycle, that and a presidential election. We need to get people involved and make their vote count. I always say, 'If you don't vote, don't complain,'" Martin said.

Martin says even if you've been temporarily displaced by Katrina, you can still vote in elections for your home district. If you have permanently moved however, this exception does not apply to you.
