Gubernatorial Candidate Says He Won't Accept Insurance Donations

Gubernatorial candidate John Arthur Eaves says his campaign will refuse any contribution from the insurance industry.

To back up that promise, the democrat running for governor signed a pledge card he set up in front of Biloxi's Katrina memorial Thursday. Eaves also challenged Governor Barbour to return any insurance industry contributions he's received.

"Instead of his hands are tied, I believe his hands are in his back pockets, filled with donations from the insurance industry. As governor, my hands will not be tied, because I will not be beholdent to the influence of the big insurance companies," Eaves said.

A spokesman for Governor Barbour's campaign says the incumbent is thankful for the wide range of donations he's received. John Arthur Eaves is one of four democrats seeking that party's nomination in the August seventh gubernatorial primary.
