Judge Says It's Time To Leave

Circuit Judge James W. Backstrom says he will not be a candidate for re-election to a third term in the 19th Circuit Court District. The district includes Jackson, Greene and George Counties.

Backstrom said in a Tuesday statement he plans to return to private practice when his current term ends Dec. 31. Backstrom, 59, was appointed midterm to the court by former Gov. Kirk Fordice on March 2, 1993. He was elected without opposition to two terms.
