Airport Gets Set To Open New Restaurants

As the airport continues to add more flights, more and more people are passing through, and they're bringing their appetites with them. In years past, food and beverages were only offered on one side of the airport--in the pre-security checkpoint area. However, that all changed Friday.

"They opened up a temporary after security food and beverage area for the passengers," said Don Shepley, of the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

Meanwhile, the airport has four new restaurants on tap--all headed up by MSE Branded Foods, which took over the airport's food and beverage services June 1.

All four restaurants, an Arby's Bay Side Grille, Lazy Magnolia Brew Pub and Restaurant, and Caribou Coffee, are slated to open in October.

"A passenger coming in getting screened is going to have the full service, Lazy Magnolia Brew Pub Restaurant, and then they're going to the the Arby's, Bay Side Grille, and Caribou Coffee. When you go pre-security for the families, and the meeters and greeters waiting, they're going to have Lazy Magnolia Bar and then be able to order any of the menu items, from the inside the Arby's, the Caribou Coffee, bring it on the outside, and they'll have seating over here, overlooking a great new view of the terminal," Shepley said.

Shepley says the new restaurants will offer a selection suitable for anyone's palate, whether they're looking for a jolt of java from the northern-based Caribou Coffee chain, or they're looking to wind down with the full flavored Southern Pecan beer from the Lazy Magnolia.

"We wanted to bring in a mix of franchise, along with a Mississippi flavor with the growing airport, the growing coast," Shepley said.

Shepley says most of the construction of these restaurants is going on behind the scenes and will be hardly noticeable to people at the airport.
