Jackson County supervisors will allow a developer to top off a hotel at 200 feet even though the area where the project would go has a 35-foot height limit. The board of supervisors' 3-1 vote Monday overturned a planning commission recommendation that the height exception be denied for Pine Island Inc.
Final approval was contingent on developer John Vondrak ensuring adequate water pressure in case of fire and getting Ocean Springs to agree to automatically provide a ladder truck in case of fire. The hotel would be built near Gulf Park Estates. Vondrak said the project would feature a quality golf course, up to 530 condominiums, retail space, restaurants and almost 50 homes. He said a 300-room luxury hotel also will be built.
