School Fire May Be Arson

Fire ripped through North Gulfport's 7th and 8th grade classrooms Saturday, and police believe it was set intentionally. The fire was discovered around 8:30am by firefighters who could smell the smoke from the school at their fire station. Investigators believe it started in the school's office.

Gulfport Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said, "It was all locked up and there's some indications that someone may have broken in, we're investigating that."

Bobby Jones is the Principal at North Gulfport. He says, "Someone might have felt like they was not treated right. Someone might have gotten suspended or even expelled and just felt like if they not gonna go to school, no one else is gonna go to school."

There is extensive smoke, fire and water damage throughout much of the school building. Jones says it could be several days before classes can resume.
