DeLisle Family's Suit Against DuPont Goes To Trial

Testimony got underway Wednesday in Jones County Circuit Court in the second of nearly 2000 lawsuits filed against the DuPont Plant in DeLisle.

Kerman and Naomi Ladner of DeLisle filed suit against the plant, claiming their 8-year-old daughter, Haley, died in June 2000 of liver cancer and heart problems caused by the release of dioxins at the facility.

In 2005, a Biloxi fisherman was awarded $14 million by a Jones County jury after he claimed dioxins from the plant triggered his blood cancer.

DuPont's DeLisle plant is the largest titanium dioxide maker in the U.S.

A jury was seated Wednesday morning, opening arguments began after lunch.
