Coast Guard To Build Back At Same Gulfport Location

The debate about where to rebuild Coast Guard Station Gulfport is over. The Coast Guard will build a $15 million headquarters on the same property it operated from before the hurricane.

Friday, Coast Guard crew members spruced up that site for Saturday's official groundbreaking ceremony. The new building should be built by October, 2008.

In the months right after the storm, charette planners talked about relocating the Coast Guard to another spot closer to the Gulfport ship channel.
