Saucier Grocery Store Destroyed By Fire

An investigation is underway into a major fire at a Harrison County convenience store. J&M Super S Grocery at Saucier-Lizana and West Wortham Roads caught fire around 6am Thursday  morning. The store is often called Jack's Grocery by locals.

Harrison County Fire Marshal George Mixon says that's about the same time the bad weather rolled through, knocking out power to that area.

The store, owned by the Vanaman family since 1984 is destroyed. Family members told WLOX they had just completed about $300,000 in renovations at the store. They had insurance, but not enough to rebuild; however the family says they will find a way to bring the store back.

Watch for more on the fire later today on WLOX News.
