Two People Killed in Separate Accidents on South Mississippi Roads

Tuesday was a deadly day on South Mississippi roads. Two women were killed in two separate accidents, one in Biloxi, the other in Gulfport. A child is also hospitalized with injuries from one of the accidents this evening.

Just after 5 p.m., police and firemen responded to a one car accident on Highway 49, just north of O'Neal Road.

"When they arrived on the scene, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries she received from the wreck. A small child that was traveling with her was taken to Garden Park for further evaluation," said Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove.

Hargrove says 44-year- old Patricia Harvey of Gulfport died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

"It appears that she ran off the road, probably doing around 45-50 miles per hour, hit the culvert head on, which is probably what caused the injuries," Hargrove said.

It was the second deadly accident on South Mississippi roads Tuesday.

"The first one being in Biloxi this morning at the Cedar Lake Exit. We had one fatality in that accident, then Sunday morning, we had a fatality, also on the interstate," Hargrove said.

Forty-six-year-old Carolyn Redd was killed in the accident at the Cedar Lake exit at about 5:30 Tuesday morning. Authorities says the SUV she was driving hit a pick up truck and flipped over. Two other people were injured in that accident.
