Escatawpa Fire Department Nearing Completion

The Escatawpa Fire Department's new building is almost complete.

Construction began on the building about one year ago. Fire fighters say most of the inside is complete and they've already had meetings and training session there.

On the outside, the truck bay area stills needs work and the building needs to be painted. Firefighters say they are about a month away from moving into the new station.

"We're finally getting up closer to our people that we respond to," Fire Chief Bill Clark said. "We were about a mile and a half south of the city limits, and our area that we cover is north of the city limits. And it's really good that we'll be up and be able to take care of all the people up here and cut our response time down probably about a third."

Firefighters have waited a long time for the new building. The city of Moss Point promised to build a new fire station when it annexed Escatawpa in the early '90s.
