Weekend Accidents Claim Two Lives

A Pass Christian man died Sunday morning in a single car accident. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says John Robinson II, 33, lost control of his car on W. Whitman Road around 8:13 a.m.

Hargrove says Robinson was the only person in the car when he lost control in a curve, went off into the woods and hit a tree. Hargrove says Robinson was not wearing a seatbelt and was likely killed instantly.

The accident happened just north of the Portage bridge in the same location as the accident that claimed the life of the son of Pass Christian mayor Billy McDonald. That accident happened in April 1993, according to WLOX News archives.

Another coast man died Saturday morning in a car accident in Jackson County. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department identified the victim as James R. Scott. Deputies say Scott ran off the road and struck several trees. They believe he died instantly. It happened around 2:15 a.m. on Ocean Springs Road near Highway 57.

Deputies say alcohol and speed may have been factors in the accident. Scott was the only person in the car.
