Church Members Surprise Pastor With Office Makeover

An Ocean Springs pastor got quite the surprise Saturday.

Reverend John Watson returned from a weeklong trip and discovered a makeover crew from his church had made some major changes to his office.

For the past four days Jami Ward has been working alongside her parents and other church members to renovate the pastor's office at Glad Tidings Assembly of God. While Pastor John Watson was out of town, working on his Master's Degree, these devoted members of the congregation also had their hands full.

"We cleaned the office out. It had paneling on the wall, and all that stuff. It was pretty dated, and we wanted to update his office, so we put in new trim and built an oak computer desk, bookcase center," says church member James Ward.

Until this week, Pastor Watson's office wasn't even usable. Like many other rooms in the church, the office was used to store post-hurricane donations and supplies.

Church members say Pastor Watson didn't mind giving up his office space for a good cause and improvised to continue his good work.

"He has a laptop computer, which is wonderful, because you can take your office wherever you are, and so he just kind of transferred to home, and home became his office," says the pastor's wife, Lisa.

When Pastor Watson returned home Saturday night on his birthday, he got quite the surprise.

"I think he's going to be speechless, and that's saying a lot for Pastor. He's a talker," says James Watson.

He was right.

"This is something else. Wow. I'm speechless," were Pastor Watson's words upon seeing his new office.

Pastor Watson says this labor of love is a great gift he plans to use to bless others as well.

CSX is facing another million dollar lawsuit, but it's not connected to the recent deadly crash at the Main Street crossing in Biloxi. It's actually from the accident a month prior involving a Pepsi truck that was stuck on the tracks and hit by a CSX train.
