Residents Back Home

Residents evacuated after a train derailment in Hattiesburg returned home today. Ten Norfolk Southern Railroad tank cars rolled over near the train depot yesterday afternoon. The tanks carry liquid propane, but were empty when they derailed. Officials say about 80 residents and business employees were evacuated because of the danger of an explosion.

Police Lieutenant Hardy Sims says the cars were about to be loaded when they came off the tracks. A crane team from Memphis, Tennessee is on the scene to upright the cars.
