Date Set For Next Redistricting Trial

Three federal judges set a January trial date to begin work on redrawing Mississippi's congressional districts.

The trial will begin in Jackson on Jan. 28. In an order Tuesday, the judges said they're stepping in because they think a map approved by a Hinds County chancery judge might not win U.S. Justice Department approval before a March 1 candidates' filing deadline. 5th U.S.

Circuit Court of Appeals Judge E. Grady Jolly of Jackson and U.S. District Judges David Bramlette of Natchez and Henry T. Wingate of Jackson met with attorneys Wednesday.
