A well established relief organization is providing an extra boost to Jackson County's recovery efforts.
Thursday, the staff with Convoy of Hope began preparing the Jackson County Fairgrounds for Saturday's God Cares Outreach event. Volunteers erected tents and portable toilets, and bagged about 40,000 pounds of groceries to be given away beginning at 9 o'clock Saturday morning.
"We're going to hand out all the groceries... We're going to have a huge carnival area for the children. We're going to have free lunch for our guests, some side entertainment. We're also going to have some free medical clinics that will be happening. Some hair stylists will be here cutting hair for free. We're going to be just having a great time as families, trying to provide a place to remind the community God still cares," Ron Showers said.
