Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in Simpson County for Hugh McGowen, Jr., who is accused of kidnapping and murdering four-year-old Shelby Lynn Tucker.
Authorities in Jackson County found the body of Shelby Lynn Tucker in a wooded area near the Ocean Springs Airport in February 2000, one day after she was reported missing. Sheriff Mike Byrd says she died from trauma to the head from a hammer like object.
Hugh McGowen, Junior is charged with capital murder. He was Tucker's great-step-uncle. McGowen's trial has been moved to Simpson County because of the publicity in the case.
